Everton are one of the sides who are keeping a close eye on one of the Championship’s top attackers ahead of January.

Just weeks into the new season and there will already be some concerns about Everton’s production in front of goal.

Over the summer, The Friedkin Group backed David Moyes with nine signings, which included the likes of Jack Grealish.

The 30-year-old is already making a significant difference on Merseyside, with Grealish named Player of the Month for August.

However, similar issues remain for Moyes after Everton have only returned one goal in their last three games.

Everton News understood that Moyes was open to signing two strikers in the summer, but he had to settle with the arrival of Thierno Barry.

Just five games into the Premier League campaign, sources are now claiming Everton are closely monitoring the joint-top scorer in the Championship.

Everton eyeing Norwich City forward Josh Sargent

Everton News understands that Everton have been keen on Josh Sargent from Norwich City for a number of months now.

Widely regarded as the best striker in the Championship – the American international saw moves fail to come to fruition in the summer.

There is an expectation that he could move in January and Everton News can confirm that the Toffees are one of the clubs keeping tabs on his progress with a new striker in Everton’s thinking for the New Year.

Earlier in the summer, Moyes shared his disappointment in Beto, which is likely to have improved after seeing the striker return just one goal this season.

Going into the game against West Ham United on Monday evening, it is anyone’s guess as to who will start up front for the Blues.

But Sargent is a player currently at the top of his game having returned five goals in his opening six Championship appearances.

Despite netting an impressive 15 goals last term in the league, the 25-year-old is already looking like he has taken his game to another level.

Everton feel they need to add a striker in January

In their opening five games, Everton have been able to return six goals, with three of those coming against Wolves.

An inability to rely on their strikers now has Everton feeling they need to add yet again in the January transfer market.

Speaking to Everton News, transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey believes the Blues could land a real coup with the Norwich forward.

“I am told that Everton are concerned that they might need another striker. Beto is doing ok whilst Barry, who they love, is taking his time to adapt, so it is no surprise that someone like Sargent is on their radar,” said Bailey.

“Sargent is a tremendous player, some people remember him from his Premier League time with Norwich but he is much improved since then – he is a top centre forward now.”

Sargent has played Premier League football before, but he appears to have really kicked on since his two goals in the 2021/22 campaign.
