A round-up of the latest Everton news as boss Sean Dyche rivals Fulham for a Premier League midfielder’s transfer and also lands an injury boost with Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Doucoure is set to return from injury when Everton host Aston Villa

Blues boss Dyche is set to welcome Doucoure back from his hamstring injury when Everton host Aston Villa on Sunday. The Toffees welcome Unai Emery’s Villans to Goodison Park for their first match after their winter break. The Blues have not been in action since January 4.

But Doucoure has not been in action since December 16 after suffering an injury as Everton won 2-0 at Burnley. He had to leave the Turf Moor fixture at half-time. The Toffees have also lost each of their three Premier League matches since losing the two-cap Mali international.

Reporter Ben Ransom has claimed on Sky Sports News (10/1, 12:28) that Doucoure is in line to return when Everton host Aston Villa, though. Yet how involved the midfielder is remains to be seen. Doucoure could still prove to only be fit enough to take a seat on Dyche’s bench.

His return will come as a huge boost for Dyche, nonetheless. Doucoure has scored six goals through his 17 Premier League appearances so far this season. Only striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin with three in 16 appearances has also scored more than two goals for the Toffees yet.

Everton rival Fulham for Onyeka’s January transfer from Brentford

Everton are now rivalling Fulham over the transfer of Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka this January. The Guardian’s Ed Aarons reports that the Toffees and Cottagers are among a raft of clubs showing interest in the 26-year-old. But the Bees are seeking over £20m to sell him.

Onyeka only signed a new contract at the Gtech Community Stadium last August that locked his future down to June 2027. Yet Thomas Frank has only afforded the 12-cap Nigeria ace a reserve role this season. He has only started Onyeka in six of his 16 Premier League games.

Brentford will listen to offers for Onyeka as Frank has also identified a potential replacement in Marseille’s Azzedine Ounahi. The Bees signed Onyeka from FC Midtjylland in July 2021. He has since played 65 times in all competitions under Frank and has only offered three assists.

Ligue 1 giants Lyon have seduced Everton winger Arnaut Danjuma with their interest in their own loan transfer with Villarreal. That is according to Foot Mercato, which now reports that the 26-year-old is also interested in joining Les Gones if the Blues agree to cut short his stay.

Danjuma has struggled to establish himself under Dyche since joining Everton on loan in the summer. He has only started three Premier League matches in 12 appearances totalling 436  minutes. Even though the Dutchman has been a part of each of Dyche’s 20 matchday sides.

So, a chance to join Lyon on loan appeals to Danjuma as he seeks an opportunity to become a regular starter again. But Everton must agree to end his loan transfer first. Lyon also do not have a deal with Villarreal yet as they target a loan with a buy option of up to €15m (£13m).
