It’s a transfer frenzy at the moment at Everton, with this window feeling eerily similar to Ronald Koeman’s 2017 summer already.

Whilst the fees are not quite as eye-watering, there was a huge amount of optimism as the Dutch coach seemed set to revolutionise the Toffees with multiple marquee signings to build on a European finish.

Every Evertonian knows how that ended, but there is an expectation that Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell would not lead this club down such a reckless path again, especially after all the hard work they have done to return to financial parity.

That being said, with three transfers already completed, Fabrizio Romano revealing another Everton target, and now this latest report, the links just keep on coming.

Everton have now bid for Belgian defender

The newest target of Thelwell’s affection is a little-known defender from the Serie A, who has actually only just joined his current club this very summer.

Having enjoyed a fine loan spell with Hellas Verona, allowed out by Royal Charleroi S.C., Jackson Tchatchoua has finally enjoyed his big break in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Now, he could be set to make the ultimate step up by joining the Premier League, according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

They claim that already an €8m (£6.7m) bid has been submitted by the Toffees, and that the selling club stands to make a substantial profit, having only turned his loan into a permanent deal for a mere €2m (£1.7m).

Who is Jackson Tchatchoua?

Having spent the bulk of his youth career with various Belgian clubs, including Standard Liege, he eventually settled on the aforementioned Charleroi, where he had amassed 64 senior appearances before spending last season on loan in Italy.

Described by some as a winger, for the bulk of his first foray into Italian football he was swiftly converted into a useful full-back, using his attacking prowess and physical presence to impress down the right.

He did manage only two assists in Serie A, but showcased promise defensively by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 clearances and 3.2 ball recoveries per game.

And, what’s even more impressive is that the Cameroonian is still just 22 years old, and has so much scope to develop.

However, Dyche might want a safer, more reliable option for right-back given the struggles he faced last season.

Nathan Patterson, Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and even Ben Godfrey all enjoyed stints in that role, with varying success.
