Everton are on the lookout for new additions – and a rather bold transfer claim was made yesterday.

The feeling is good at Everton again after David Moyes masterminded a brilliant result against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Everton won 1-0 against the odds, with several stars shining.

What will you think about TFG if Everton don’t address their needs in the winter window? 🤔

The focus will now shift back to the transfer window, and Everton are yet to sign any new players.

Fans are hoping that The Friedkin Group will deliver, but it would not be a surprise if Everton didn’t strengthen given the narrative.

Everton may not end up being too busy this month, but the summer will surely be a totally different story.

And it’s now been suggested that the Toffees have eyes on a former player.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton are one of several clubs looking at John Stones ahead of the summer.

Everton were linked with Stones last year, and it looks like eyes remain on the Manchester City defender.

Stones has again struggled with injuries this season at Manchester City, and has made just 13 appearances this term. He hasn’t featured since December 12.

He is out of contract in the summer, which is going to put a number of clubs on red alert.

And that is the suggestion from TEAMtalk, who say that at least half a dozen Premier League clubs have already made contact regarding a summer move.

TEAMtalk do also say that many other clubs from various different leagues are keen such as AC Milan, Napoli, Como, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Bayern, of course, are managed by Vincent Kompany, who played alongside Stones at City. They also have Stones’ England teammate Harry Kane.

Furthermore, TEAMtalk say clubs from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS have made their interest known.

Everton should not be tempted to pursue Stones

It worked out very well for Everton going back to Moyes as manager.

But going back to Stones – who left the club in 2016 – feels like it’d be a potential mistake for the Toffees.

There is no denying his talent. Stones is without doubt an exceptional ball-playing central defender, with many footballers having even modelled their game on his. Pep Guardiola has called him ‘top class’ (via mancity.com) and few would disagree with that verdict.

But the injury record makes him a major risk for Everton.

Unfortunately, Stones’ career has been blighted by injuries, and he has only once made over 30 appearances in the Premier League in a season for City.

In the nine seasons he played for City before the current campaign, he didn’t play over 20 in five of them.

It is nice to imagine Stones returning, and Everton will no doubt need to look at centre-halves this year with Michael Keane out of contract and James Tarkowski not a long-term option. But perhaps Everton heads need to rule hearts this summer.
