Everton have been linked to a significant number of right-backs so far this month.

You will have seen the likes of Wesley, Vanderson, Emil Holm, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Ben White, Zakaria El Ouahdi and Yukhym Konoplya named as targets for Everton as David Moyes searches for a new defender, suggesting The Friedkin Group have more of a long-list than a shortlist to get stuck into.

Before any of these players were linked with moves to the Hill Dickinson Stadium however, Everton tried to sign Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla last summer – a deal El Desmarque believe the Toffees are now hoping to finally force through.

Everton try again for Juanlu Sanchez deal and Sevilla actually want to sell

The Spanish news outlet believe Sevilla are struggling financially, but still want to bolster their squad this winter.

What right-back do you want Everton to sign in January? 🤔

As a result, Sanchez has been put up for sale for a sum of just €15m (£13m) as Sevilla aim to raise some funds, as opposed to putting themselves in an even worse financial situation by exploring any further ‘economic shortcuts’ as El Desmarque put it.

The Spanish news outlet add that Everton are now on red alert having tried – but failed – to sign the Spain U21 international in the summer of 2025, and a new move has been made.

However, El Desmarque do mention that it was Sanchez himself who refused a move to Merseyside last summer, so Everton still have a job to do in terms of convincing the 22-year-old.

In terms of talks with Sevilla, however, they hardly seem necessary as the Spanish outfit want to sell.

David Moyes could get his very own James Milner-esque utility player in Juanlu Sanchez

Seamus Coleman is almost back… does that make a right-back less of a priority in the transfer market? 🧐

If Everton do manage to sign the Sevilla No.16 for just £13m this month, it could prove to be a bargain when you consider just how versatile he really is.

As you can see, Sanchez – who Everton even bid for in January 2025 – can play anywhere down the right flank, and even has experience of playing in central midfield as well as on the left of the attack.

It means Moyes can not only solve his right-back dilemma by signing the man born in Montequinto, but the deal would also give the Glaswegian an emergency option in case Everton suffer injuries in other areas.
