Everton are now monitoring a potential summer swoop for a defender who is currently playing for one of John Textor’s clubs.

An interesting few weeks await Everton in the summer transfer window with a potential need to offload some players before the end of the month.

The likes of Jarrad Branthwaite could be sold this month with Manchester United showing an interest in the 21-year-old England international.

However, it is not all doom and gloom at Goodison Park this summer with Sean Dyche also eyeing a number of potential signings.

Everton are believed to be looking to bring back Jack Harrison after his loan deal from Leeds United over the 2023/24 campaign.

And another player who the club are now believed to be looking at a defender who is currently playing at a club partly owned by John Textor.

There may well be a lot of talk about the potential departures from Everton over the coming weeks as the club battle the FFP regulations once again.

Having been deducted points this season for their financial breaches, the Toffees will be aware of what they need to do this time around to fall short once again.

But it is still being reported that the club are looking to make a number of signings this summer with Kalvin Phillips believed to be of interest to Everton.

However, the Toffees have eyes on potential additions all over the pitch with a defender now believed to be on their radar.

According to The Athletic, Everton are monitoring the situation of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien.

The Ligue 1 club are currently part-owned by John Textor with O’Brien having only signed for Lyon last summer from one of Textor’s other clubs, Crystal Palace.

The report is caveated with Everton’s move for a new centre-back only being seen as necessary if another defender is to leave this summer.

What is the latest with John Textor and Everton’s takeover

Having seen the deadline pass for the proposed takeover with 777 partners, Everton are now looking at their options.

It is not just 777 who have shown an interest in taking over Farhad Moshiri‘s majority share at Goodison Park with Textor believed to be of keen interest.

According to reports, Textor has now made contact with the Premier League over the potential of owning both Everton and Crystal Palace.

With Textor’s position at Lyon potentially playing a big hand in bringing O’Brien over from Palace over the summer, his proposed interest in Everton could prove very useful for the Toffees.
