Everton most likely Premier League side to sign player who once had £354 million release clause

Everton should seek at least a couple of improvements in the January transfer window, and it looks as if they already have one target in mind.

The issue for Everton is the fact that they already have two international players on loan this season in Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala, which forces them to spend money.

Everton aren’t out of the woods with PSR just yet, so they’ll want to keep their powder as dry as possible to set themselves up for a pretty clean slate in the summer with new owners.

But, slipping down towards the relegation zone could force the Friedkin Group’s hand if the takeover goes through, as they can’t afford to just watch a slide without improvements.

There are potential bargains on the market, and it appears as if one player who has already played on Merseyside is tickling their fancy.

Everton the most likely destination for Arthur Melo

Arthur Melo has actually already been on Merseyside before at rivals Liverpool.

However, he only managed to appear once due to a long-term injury he suffered at the club, so perhaps he won’t be too keen on returning to England.

It was reported earlier on in the week that Everton are ready to offer Melo a move to Goodison.

And now a report from Tuttosport, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, states that Everton have taken an interest in the midfielder and are the most likely destination in England.

It says, when it comes to England, Everton are the ‘most concrete possibility’ at this moment in time.

Arthur Melo’s whopping release clause at Barcelona

Arthur Melo made the move to Barcelona from Gremio back in 2018, and a release clause of €400 million (£354 million) was inserted into his contract (as per Bleacher Report).

He’s long gone from attracting any price in that region now though, as he’s out of favour at Juventus.

The Brazilian has zero minutes to his name for the Italian club after impressing at Fiorentina in the last campaign, hence why a move it being touted.

However, it could all depend on the potential price Juventus are asking for the midfielder, as it seems as if Everton have no more room for an international loan.
