Everton are now interested in signing Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga who looks set to leave Ange postecoglu’s side this summer.

The ‘fantastic’ player had been linked with a move to Italian giants Inter, though they favour a move for Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard.

Luton Town could also provide Tanganga with a route out of Spurs as they look to strengthen following their promotion to the Premier League.

That is according to Inter Live, who report that the Hatters have been in pole position to secure the 24-year-old’s signature, but Everton have now emerged as a potential destination.

Japhet Tanganga could be a decent short-term defensive solution

Everton’s clear need for a centre-forward this summer has probably allowed the requirement of defensive recruitments to slip under the radar.

However, the 4-0 defeat at Villa Park last Saturday brought into sharp focus the club’s defensive frailties, with a calamitous display across the backline.

Indeed, the Toffees were fortunate to return to Merseyside having conceded just four goals and will need to sign a centre-back before the end of the window.

Sean Dyche is yet to play prodigious defender Jarrad Branthwaite this season after his impressive campaign on loan at PSV Eindhoven last term.

The 21-year-old is set to be offered a new contract at the club to ward off potential suitors according to reports, with Manchester United an interested party.

The England U-21 star must start alongside James Tarkowski against Wolves this weekend with £30m defender Michael Keane a constant source of confusion and panic at the back.

However, the Blues will still need to recruit defensively even if Branthwaite is tied down with renewed terms, though perhaps a more experienced player would be more beneficial for Everton.

However, if a loan deal can be agreed, Tanganga could be a short-term option for Sean Dyche’s side.
