Everton now looking to sell £72k-a-week player after Neal Maupay exit

Everton have already seen one senior player depart this summer, and hopefully, with a bit of luck, they can negotiate a deal to see another depart as well.

After all, whilst incomings will be important to bolster Sean Dyche‘s squad, ensuring that their deadwood is shipped out is arguably even more important for their long-term future.

Especially given it is their reckless business across the last decade that has left them in such a financially restricted position.

Fortunately, Neal Maupay’s Everton exit will alleviate that burden somewhat.

And, in even better news, another unwanted asset could be set to follow suit.

Everton want another sale after Neal Maupay

That’s according to information shared by TEAMtalk journalist Harry Watkinson, who has sought to shed some further light on the future of Mason Holgate.

The centre-back, who was once one of the most promising talents at the club, has seen his career take a quite significant nosedive in recent years.

Now, he is not even deemed good enough for a Championship Southampton side, or a Sheffield United team that were relegated as one of the worst in the Premier League‘s history.

So, with that in mind, there’s clearly going to be no place for him in Dyche’s team, and he has thus instructed Kevin Thelwell to sort his future out.

The reporter has therefore claimed: ‘A few Championship and European clubs have enquired about signing Mason Holgate on loan but Everton want permanent exit + could let him go on a free transfer. His £72kp/w wage is the big obstacle.

’20 y/o centre-back Reece Welch also generating interest and #EFC open to loan.’

Mason Holgate has no future a Everton

Unfortunately, as aforementioned, his failure to reignite his career across his two loan spells has effectively rendered his time at Everton over.

If he cannot make the grade at either of those clubs, then there is no chance he will survive in the Toffees’ environment.

With Jarrad Branthwaite’s recent emergence onto the scene, one centre-back position is solidified indefinitely should he be fit.

And, with James Tarkowski’s leadership complementing him perfectly, his spot is another unlikely to be moved.

Seeking to add further cover to that after sanctioning the exit of Ben Godfrey, Jake O’Brien was one of three permanent signings made already this summer, and provides a fine first reserve for the defence.

Then, should he be unavailable, even Michael Keane is ahead of Holgate in the pecking order.

This summer must mark his last at Goodison Park.
