Everton are closing in on the sale of Neal Maupay at last, and the Frenchman has not held back in his reaction to finally securing his exit.
The striker, who joined for £15m under Frank Lampard’s leadership, has not been shy in voicing his opinions throughout his tenure on Merseyside.
Scoring just a sole Premier League goal sums up his contribution to the Toffees, with the 28-year-old having amassed more controversies with the fans than he did goals.
And, in leaving, he is not pulling any punches with sending a message to these Evertonians again.
Neal Maupay finally set to leave Everton
Such is the nature of Neal Maupay, he took to X to react to the news of his exit.
Having worked hard to force this move through, as someone who was never bound to success under Sean Dyche‘s leadership, he’ll be delighted to be returning to his homeland after such a torrid spell at Goodison Park.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed this news, writing: ‘Neal Maupay to Olympique Marseille, here we go! Deal done on loan with mandatory buy option from Everton. €4m fee as #EFC were only accepting a permanent move, Maupay agreed terms days ago.
‘All set for medical, as L’Équipé reports.’
So, with Maupay leaving, he would react in typically controversial fashion, posting a video of Andy Dufresne escaping from Shawshank Prison.
Naturally, this has riled up plenty of supporters, just days after Neal Maupay argued with Everton fans in a train station in London.
Reviewing Neal Maupay’s ugly spell at Everton
As aforementioned, Maupay joined in the summer of 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion, set to star up front for Lampard.
However, there were never really huge expectations on the marksman, who was far from the typical striker that Goodison Park had been used to.
Alas, fans gave Thelwell the benefit of the doubt, but were swiftly betrayed with his awful performances.
Just one league goal all season marked a miserable return, and he was subsequently loaned out to Brentford for the following campaign.
There, Maupay further infuriated Evertonians by praising Lewis Dunk after the Seagulls skipper had faced his parent club.

And now, upon leaving, he has nothing holding him back, and has reacted in kind.
Everton fans will be happy to see the back of this profligate mischief maker, and he will be delighted to finally end his Merseyside nightmare.
It’s ironic how he saw Goodison Park as a prison, given the footballing crimes he committed by squandering chances and alienating himself from his own fanbase.
