Merlin Rohl has endured a pretty challenging start to his career at Everton.

Everton signed Merlin Rohl from Freiburg last summer, with the loan deal containing an obligation to buy worth £17m if the Toffees stay up.

Rohl has dealt with injuries for large parts of the season but managed to complete only his second 90 minutes in the 1-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend.

David Moyes heaped praise on Rohl after the game and admitted there’s still so much more to come from the 23-year-old.

Was that Merlin Rohl’s best game in an Everton shirt? 💪

That said, Rohl has just released a statement on his newly set-up Instagram account which speaks volumes about his character.

Merlin Rohl has a message for Everton fans and the wider population

Everton fans were blown away by Rohl’s first interview for the club after signing on deadline day.

The 2002-born spoke with such maturity, and supporters immediately spotted how intelligent and thoughtful he was.

Now, the German youth international has just put out a statement on social media which further evinces that notion,

“Hey everyone, I want to give you insights on my profile behind the scenes of a professional footballer, share my thoughts on different topics, show my love for football, convey my joy in photography,” Rohl wrote.

“And keep consciousness of my actions within these things. I do not want to create a place where it is exclusively about my person and where my sporting successes can be admired in pictures.

“In my first post I look back on the year 2025. A year shaped by sporting and health ups and downs. And filled with psychological richness.

“I am very grateful for my privileged life and my path, which was made possible for me through luck, coincidence, a lot of work, physical prerequisites and a family situation.

“I admire every person who keeps fighting against obstacles in their life and stands strong against inner battles and external influences. Yours, Merlin.”

David Moyes has been really impressed with Merlin Rohl behind the scenes

Whilst Everton fans perhaps haven’t seen the best of Rohl yet, Moyes spoke about how impressed he’s been with the midfielder in training.

“We’ve been really impressed with what we’ve seen from Merlin,” the Scotsman told the Liverpool Echo.

“Certainly, his physicals are something else, they really are, so there’s lots about him we like. I think he’s not quite got into his rhythm and it might take him a wee while this time.”

It’s easy to forget Rohl is still such a young player who is still adapting to a new country, culture and football club.

Rohl thanked Everton fans for their support after the Villa game, explaining that their loudness is something he’s never experienced before.
