Everton may have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties last night, but despite this, one man’s been praised.

On Tuesday night, Everton welcomed Fulham to Goodison Park for what ultimately turned out to be a disappointing night for The Toffees.

For starters, Sean Dyche‘s Blues failed to live up to the recent standards they set and will be disappointed with themselves given Fulham wasn’t great either.

Michael Keane opened the scoring but for the wrong side, as he put the ball into his net which seemed like the deciding action until Beto equalised in the 82nd minute.

This took the game to penalties where Amadou Onana missed when he had the chance to win the game at 4-3 before Idrissa Gueye then missed his to hand Fulham the spot in the semi-finals

After the game, Onana was praised for his response to the miss, apologising to fans in the stands. But it was the own goalscorer Keane who has now gotten tonnes of credit for his defensive display.

Michael Keane praised

Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas took to X with his verdict on the game after the final whistle, with Keane the recipient of praise.

“Think a word of credit should go to Michael Keane. He has had so many tough moments at Everton over recent years. It would have been easy for him to try to avoid the pressure in that shootout. Instead, he stepped up, took a crucial place in the line-up + absolutely smashed it.”

Keane put in a solid display and continued to show he can be a useful team under Dyche despite the own goal.

Another Everton player who’s previously played under Dyche and it is clearly a benefit to the transition of style and the fact players can come in from the cold and still perform.
