Everton’s Carabao Cup journey is over, ending with a penalty shootout loss to Fulham at Goodison Park.
On a disappointing night at Goodison Park, Everton will have been disappointed at the result but put in a performance which can’t argue with the outcome.
Fulham opened the scoring with Michael Keane putting it into his own goal in what was a bad goal to concede, and without it, Fulham never really looked like scoring – something Sean Dyche can take solace from.
Everton then struck back in the 82nd minute through Beto which felt like a crucial goal at the time. However, ultimately it only prolonged the defeat as The Toffees were defeated 6-7 on penalties with Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye the two players missing spot kicks for Everton.
After a disappointing result, what Onana did after the game caught the eye.

What Amadou Onana did at full-time vs Fulham
Onana will be feeling particularly guilty for his contribution to the penalty loss, as his miss was a deciding one. If he’d scored, Everton would’ve won the shootout 5-3, but he didn’t and Gueye went on to also miss resulting in a first defeat in four.
However, Onana was clearly apologetic after the game ended as Paddy Boyland reported.
“Onana one of the last off the pitch, applauding fans and holding his hand up apologetically.”
It is good to see Onana apologise despite penalties being a lottery, it shows he cares and the fact he was among the last to leave the pitch says alot.
Sean Dyche will be gutted over Everton defeat
Dyche will be gutted over the huge blow that is missing out on a cup semi-final and with Middlesbrough in there, possibly a very good chance at a final.
Earlier on Tuesday, we reported that Dyche had mentioned his eagerness to win every game and try for the cup so this will be a blow for him.
It isn’t something that Dyche and his squad can dwell on though, with a double header of Spurs and Man City to come over the festive period.
