Everton endured a rough summer in the transfer market.
The Toffees thought they had a new right-back as a deal was agreed to sign Kenny Tete, only for the Netherlands international to pen a contract extension with Fulham.
Everton ultimately failed to find an alternative despite having other names on the shortlist, such as Wesley – who eventually left Flamengo to join Roma in a €30m (£25m) move.
Now – according to TEAMtalk – a deal for the Brazilian could be back on as Gian Piero Gasperini targets a new forward.
Intermediaries reveal Wesley could already be on the move again with Everton still watching
TEAMtalk believe Everton are still ‘watching’ the Brazil international as Jake O’Brien continues to fill in out of position at right-back.
What right-back do you want Everton to sign in January? 🤔
Juanlu Sanchez could certainly be an upgrade…
Despite only arriving at Roma as recently as July, it is said that a sale could now happen if a respectable bid is received as Gasperini wants his attacking department bolstered.
Intermediaries have therefore alerted Everton and other sides in England – Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle are named – that a deal is possible if they show genuine interest in negotiations.
Of course, Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle have greater financial power than Everton and can also offer Wesley European football.
However, Everton have the advantage of being owned by The Friedkin Group – who also own Roma – which could help negotiations run smoothly.
Everton need a new right-back now more than ever after Michael Keane dismissal
With Michael Keane now suspended for the next three games following his red card against Wolves, we would expect Moyes to move O’Brien back into the centre of defence – his natural position.
Nathan Patterson could therefore get a shot, but the Scotland international has struggled with injuries this season and might not be fit to play 90 minutes for the next three games.
Can you name the other three? 🤔
Still cannot believe Keane was sent of for this!
It means Everton now have an even greater need for a new right-back, so if a deal for Wesley really is possible this winter, the Toffees must give it a go and try to make up for missing out in the summer.
