Seven games left and on 46 points – how many points do you expect Everton to finish on? 🤔
The speculation comes as Idrissa Gana Gueye’s Everton future hangs in the balance, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Everton boast a strong list of midfielders at Finch Farm, but constant improvement is on the agenda for the Friedkins.
However, it has been suggested that West Ham want to retain Fernandes even if they are relegated to the Championship.
How Mateus Fernandes could improve Everton
Having signed Fernandes for around £42m from Southampton, the midfielder has returned three goals and three assists in the Premier League this season.
This is a player who could be Gueye’s long-term replacement as he has dwarfed the Senegal international’s statistics for West Ham, according to Squawka’s comparison matrix.
Not only has Fernandes (80) almost recorded double the number of tackles as Gueye (42), but he has also shown more in an attacking sense.

Gueye is now 36 years of age and a replacement will have to be found.
Many will hope that can be Harrison Armstrong, but Fernandes’ performances in a struggling West Ham side have been mightily impressive.
