David Moyes couldn’t quite secure a win over his former club Manchester United on Saturday, but today he is the subject of a brilliant post by Everton on social media site X.
Everton and United drew 2-2 at Goodison Park.
There was frustration about the result in the end, because Everton were in a commanding position at one point.
The Toffees were 2-0 up at half-time after goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure, and it seemed like there’d only be one winner.
United were so poor in the first-half, but somehow managed to turn the game around and get it back to 2-2.
But then came the game’s big controversy.
Referee Andy Madley overturned a penalty decision after VAR made him look at the incident again via the pitchside monitor.
Ashley Young was fouled by Matthijs de Light, but Everton were denied a spot-kick which, if converted, would have handed the Toffees three points.
Young was left stunned by Madley and the VAR’s overturn, and earlier today, Everton took a cheeky dig at the incident on social media.
Everton mock VAR overturn decision against Manchester United

This decision has certainly got people talking.
Rio Ferdinand felt Everton were unlucky not to get the penalty, and many feel there was plenty of contact on Young and no need for VAR to get involved.
Some do not feel like it a ‘clear and obvious’ error by the referee in the first instance, so VAR shouldn’t have interjected.
With this phrase in mind, one admit at Everton has today poked fun at yesterday’s decision with a post many fans will find amusing.
Championing David Moyes’ achievements since he returned to the club, they wrote: “Unbeaten in six league matches (W4, D2). – 14 points earned – 14 goals scored The David Moyes effect 𝐢𝐬 clear and obvious.”
The David Moyes effect has indeed been clear
The decision by The Friedkin Group to appoint David Moyes has been absolutely inspired.
There were a few people who were skeptical, and there are likely a number of Evertonians who are surprised at how well he has done so far.
But Moyes has done an outstanding job, without even changing too much.
He only signed one player in January, so it’s mainly been about getting a tune out of the players where Sean Dyche could not.

And he’s done that magnificently.
Everton just look much stronger all over the pitch, and the work Moyes has done with Beto has been especially good.
Thankfully, Everton are now in a position under Moyes whereby VAR controversies don’t matter as much as they might have.
