Everton continue to scour the transfer market for a new right-back – and one target has drawn an exciting comparison.
A new right-back has been on the agenda for a long time now for Everton.
For the most part, Jake O’Brien has operated as a makeshift right-back since David Moyes returned to the club.
Seamus Coleman is almost back… does that make a right-back less of a priority in the transfer market? 🧐
And while the Irishman has had several great games there, his showing against Aston Villa on Sunday was just another reminder that he is far better in the middle.
There have been links to several right-backs so far this month. Brooke Norton-Cuffy is on Everton’s agenda, but he could be pricey at around £17 million.
But Everton have also been linked with a move for Sacha Boey, which is exciting.
New Everton target Sacha Boey plays like Achraf Hakimi

For years Everton had a brilliant, swashbuckling right-back in Seamus Coleman.
We haven’t seen that version of Coleman for several years though now due to a combination of injuries and ageing.
Evertonians would surely love to see a player like that again though – and Boey could make for an exciting addition.
In 2024, at the time of his move to Bayern Munich from Galatasaray, the official Bundesliga website ran a feature about the Frenchman – and compared him to Achraf Hakimi.
It read: “While Boey is sound defensively, it is going forward that he really catches the eye. Eager to join in attacks at every opportunity, his pace, driving runs and crosses into the box are reminiscent of former Borussia Dortmund full-back Achraf Hakimi.”
Hakimi, of course, is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football, and they don’t come much more attack-minded than him.
Breaking The Lines have also reported previously that Boey has ‘a combination of dedication, hard work, and an exceptional skillset’.
Nathan Patterson could yet dictate Everton’s plans
Everton continue to be linked with right-backs, but it comes amid an upturn for Nathan Patterson.
Patterson has been really good in the last two games for Everton, and also played well recently against Nottingham Forest.
Patterson’s display against Aston Villa arguably went under the radar, and some are now suggesting he should be kept, as O’Brien can then play centrally.

The Scot may well have a close eye on the club’s movements regarding the pursuit of a new right-back.
But while he’s playing like this, and as exciting as the links are to Boey, it may well be that Everton hold off until the summer.
