Everton have made some big-money moves in the transfer market over the years.

During Farhad Moshiri’s early tenure, the Toffees were one of the biggest spenders in the Premier League.

Everton signed the likes of Richarlison for around £50m, however, they also had some real transfer blunders, too.

Before Moshiri’s arrival, the club had to operate on a really shrewd budget and David Moyes was often forced to get creative to compete.

With that said, back in 2010, they tried to sign a player on loan who’s since become one of the most famous footballers who’s ever lived.

Everton tried to sign David Beckham in 2010

According to The Guardian, back in 2010, David Moyes offered David Beckham the chance to join Everton on a short-term loan deal.

Moyes was really keen to bring Beckham to Goodison Park in the winter transfer window and it was believed the friendship between Phil Neville and the LA Galaxy star would help.

“If David wanted to pick up the phone and say he wants to come to Everton, we would be here for him,” Moyes said.

“I know him and if David Beckham wanted to come back to the Premier League, he would only need to pick up the phone to me or Phil.

“If he wants to come back and play under me, and with Phil, he can do that. I think he would feel he could do that to a lot of clubs in the Premier League. We would have to look into it financially, but if he came and said to me: ‘I would like to come and play’, I would have to go to the chairman and ask if we could do it. For example, do we think we could make it work by selling enough shirts?”

Beckham rejected Everton loan move

After a week or so of speculation, Beckham ultimately rejected Moyes’ offer to join Everton and ended up staying in Los Angeles.

Indeed, since then, the former England international has become a global superstar and certainly one of the most famous footballers to ever live.

Beckham established himself as a household name in the United States and is now the owner of an MLS team, Inter Miami.

He’s been able to use his influence to sign the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, so evidently, staying in the US has been beneficial for his career after hanging up the boots.
