Everton want a player who has a 100% unbeaten record playing with Hayden Hackney

Everton have been quiet over the last couple of weeks, but appear to have eyes on a player who enjoys playing with Hayden Hackney.

The Toffees have not done any more deals since the three they completed in quick succession earlier this month.

Hackney arrived from Middlesbrough, before Everton then moved to turn Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl’s loan moves to the club permanent.

Fans are just starting to grow a little concerned now.

Pre-season has already started, and Everton have already played their first game against Dundee, with Bolton Wanderers next up on Saturday.

It seems unlikely there will be a new face signed before that game, but potentially Everton could soon land Jonathan Rowe.

Jonathan Rowe likes playing with Hayden Hackney

Everton are said to have enquired about Jonathan Rowe, the former Norwich City prospect who now plays for Bologna.

He is being closely considered, with David Moyes looking to add more pace on the wings after bringing back George.

But there is interest from rival suitors in Rowe, including from Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

But Everton have also joined the race, and it is interesting to note that Rowe has already played with Hayden Hackney in the England U21s – and the pair have never lost a game when playing together.

They have appeared in six U21 matches together so far, and have recorded four victories and two draws.

One of those was a 9-1 win in 2023/24 against Serbia, in which Rowe scored.

So quite possibly, Everton stand to get a winning formula by signing Rowe and playing him and Hackney in the same side.

Perhaps the presence of Hackney could be something that gives Everton the edge in the race for Rowe, as could the large English contingent at the club.

There are other youngsters like George and Tyler Dibling. Then, there are more experienced heads like James Tarkowski, Jordan Pickford, James Garner and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee Bologna are looking for, but it feels like Everton could genuinely really appeal to Rowe if he’s looking for a route back to England.
