Everton are looking to strengthen this month, with the squad in real need of new faces.

There is much work to be done for new owners The Friedkin Group, with Everton just one point above the relegation zone right now.

The defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday was one of the worst of the season so far in terms of performance, with Everton failing to manage a single shot on target against the Cherries.

Bournemouth fans mocked Everton’s way of playing under Sean Dyche, and it’s clear big changes are needed moving forward.

And fans will hope changes will happen via the transfer window, with attacking players on the agenda.

And it looks like Everton could be targeting an exciting player from the Championship.

It’s been reported in the Daily Mail this morning (January 6, print edition, page 10) that both Everton and Crystal Palace are keen to sign Tom Fellows again from West Bromwich Albion.

Fellows is currently enjoying a very productive season in the Championship.

He is currently top of the assists chart with 10 for the campaign so far, and has created a total of 32 chances, giving him a chances created per 90 statistic of 1.66 (via BBC Sport).

Of course, one of the biggest issues for Everton right now is being productive in the final third.

Chris Sutton slammed Everton upon discovering they’d only scored 15 Premier League goals this season, and too many of the attacking players have been way below the standards expected.

But there can be some sympathy for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Armando Broja, who often have to feed off scraps during Dyche-ball.

The service to them needs to be much better, and Fellows is clearly someone capable of making things happen at the top end of the pitch.

Fellows has been on Everton’s radar for around a year now, and was also linked with the Toffees last summer.

Tom Fellows’ style of play

Fellows is a winger capable of playing on both flanks and also centrally, but he has predominately featured on the right side for West Brom.

He has established himself as one of the Championship’s brightest young talents in recent times, and that’s thanks in part to the way he uses his pace and dribbling.

Appearances – 72
Goals – 7
Assists – 14

Carlos Corberan said of him in the summer of 2023 (via E&S): “He’s a very quick player and can manage the right and left foot and he can beat players with the one-v-one.”

A year ago Everton News spoke to West Brom expert Kieran Doody about Tom Fellows, and he told us: “He’s a talented ball carrier. He’s very direct, he receives the ball deep and his first thought is to drive forward in possession as much as possible. He’s very much a traditional winger who attacks the full-back and delivers balls into the box.”
