When Everton sanctioned the sale of Demarai Gray during the summer of 2023, it was quite a contentious decision.
Demarai Gray was one of Everton’s best players under Frank Lampard, but Sean Dyche decided to sell him to Saudi Arabia after just six months of working with him.
What would your message to David Moyes be after the loss to United? 😡
He cannot find the answer at the Hill Dickinson…
Gray didn’t have a great spell in Saudi, as he scored just four goals whilst providing five assists in 40 games for Al-Ettifaq.
As such, Gray left last summer and joined his boyhood club Birmingham City, in what was quite a coup for the newly-promoted Championship side.
With that said, here is how the 29-year-old is getting on with the Blues this season.
Is is time to drop Barry? 😬
Former Everton winger Demarai Gray not pulling up any trees in the Championship
It’d be unfair to say Gray is struggling in the Championship, but he’s certainly not pulling up any trees at Birmingham.
Many expected the 29-year-old to be one of the best players in the division, scoring and assisting most weeks.
But, it’s not really panned out like that, as he’s netted just five times in the second tier, thus justifying Everton’s decision to let him go.
Admittedly, the former Toffees winger has missed a portion of the season due to a calf injury, but even still, he’s clearly not a Premier League-level player anymore.
Although, he may well be plying his trade in the top tier next season, as Birmingham are making a push for the play-offs.
Gray’s side have won four of their last six games and have the chance to go two points behind sixth-placed Wrexham with a win over Millwall tonight.
