Abdoulaye Doucoure’s future is still undecided at Everton but it’s clear what the midfielder wants.
After Doucoure’s heroics once again in the dying embers against Nottingham Forest this draws attention to his status with the club.
Doucoure wants to stay at Everton as the 32-year-old clearly feels he can still offer a lot to David Moyes’ side.
But despite his desire to stay, Everton fans want Doucoure gone, as a wage of £130,000 at 32 isn’t exactly sustainable.
With this considered, the perfect replacement is ready and waiting for Everton, and it’s someone Premier League fans will know well.

Joao Palhinha could emerge on Everton’s radar this summer
It’s ambitious but certainly possible.
Many fans know of Joao Palhinha, who completed a £42m move to Bayern Munich from former Everton boss Marco Silva’s Fulham side last summer.
The Portuguese midfielder was a highly sought-after player after being a major success under Silva, as the Fulham boss loved his qualities, saying they are ‘hard to find in football’, with Jamie Redknapp also calling him a ‘sensation’.
It was always likely he would leave Fulham, and Bayern came knocking, but the 29-year-old has struggled in Germany and now could return to the Premier League this summer.
This is according to Christian Falk, who says Bayern will be after some of the £42m fee they paid for him.

Palhinha would be perfect Doucoure replacement for Everton
With Palhinha’s availability clear and Doucoure with a ‘difficult situation’ at Everton, this should be a no-brainer for Moyes to at least have a go.
Although it’s certainly a stab in the dark, considering Palhinha plays Champions League football, if a Premier League return is what the midfielder wants, then The Friedkin Group should certainly explore this.
The club have already looked into this prospect in the past, as the Toffees wanted Palhinha before he moved to Fulham, according to the Print Edition of Record (25/05/22).
Palhinha is a slightly different player to Doucoure, but the 29-year-old can excel both in defensive areas and in an attacking sense, which is an upgrade on Doucoure, if anything.
He showed this in his final season at Fulham, and Moyes could be a keen admirer.
| Palhinha’s statistics in the 23/24 Premier League season | |
| Games played | 33 |
| Goals | 4 |
| Touches in opposition box | 43 |
| Duels won % | 60.9% |
| Accurate long balls | 80 |
With these qualities considered, he could be perfect for Moyes as a more expensive Tomas Soucek alternative, as Soucek is also on Everton’s radar.
Of course, £42m seems a bit steep, but with the owners willing to spend and Palhinha eager for a return to England, this could be a revolutionary signing for Everton.
