Everton star Jordan Pickford has raved about one of his England teammates ahead of the Three Lions’ crunch Euro 2024 quarter-final against Switzerland.
The 30-year-old has once again been a central figure in Gareth Southgate’s plans and has, for the most part, impressed at this summer’s tournament, aside from some bizarre criticism from a Dutch journalist.
Thus far, Pickford has only conceded two goals, one of them being a wonder strike during England’s group stage draw with Denmark. Former Everton manager Sam Allardyce couldn’t believe some people were subsequently blaming England’s number one.
With Southgate’s men hardly free-scoring, Pickford will no doubt have to be at his best if England are to progress to another European Championship semi-final.

Before the tournament, Marc Guehi’s presence at the heart of England’s defence was questioned.
However, the £20m Crystal Palace man has been a standout performer in Harry Maguire’s absence. The 23-year-old, however, won’t feature on Saturday evening due to suspension.
Something Pickford noted in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I think he has been brilliant since he came in, but it is an opportunity for everyone else,” said the Everton man.
“Everyone is here on merit because they have had a brilliant season with their club; whoever plays will be ready to take the challenge on.”
Pickford added, “We are a team of 26, and everyone has got to be raring to go for the game. Whoever is going to play will be ready. We have prepared well all week, and everyone will step up and do the job for the badge.
“Me as a goalkeeper, you have got to keep your own identity and the shape the manager and the staff want us to play; I have got to adapt to that, and so has the rest of the team. Whatever is given to me I am ready to take the challenge on.”
Jordan Pickford will play a crucial part in any England success against Switzerland
With Southgate’s pragmatic style set to once again grace the screens of fan parks and establishments around the country, Pickford and England’s defence will be at the forefront of any success.
The Everton man, as we all know, hasn’t let his country down – and there’s a genuine possibility of England reaching the final if they can begin to show any sign of form.
If England can progress, Pickford’s rank among the country’s best-ever shot-stoppers will only increase.
However, Southgate’s men still need to do a lot of work to secure a semi-final berth.
