Everton, after enjoying what felt like a really profitable transfer window, know just how to bring their fans back down to earth.
Heading into yesterday’s home match against AFC Bournemouth, it was widely expected that they could not afford another loss.
After all, having been crushed at home by Brighton and Hove Albion in their first Premier League match of the season, before then being further demolished at Tottenham Hotspur, not only did they need points on the board, but they needed reason for confidence too.
Alas, they were to go without the former, and have taken an almighty hit to the latter, which must be at an all-time low now.
Understandably, the fans are sick of it.
Graeme Bailey offers his thoughts on Sean Dyche Everton future
After such an emotionally charged afternoon, in which the glorious highs of a comfortable 2-0 lead were swiftly replaced by anxiety and dread at the inevitable, supporters were exhausted.
The scenes outside Goodison Park, for those who even bothered to stay for the full-time whistle, were like something out of a horror movie, as a slow-moving horde of zombies groaned towards Bank Hall, Kirkdale or elsewhere.

At times, supporting this club seems like a fate worse than being trapped in a horror movie.
Naturally, much of the criticism surrounding the collapse was attributed to Sean Dyche, and deservedly so after he failed to make the clear changes that they needed.
Graeme Bailey, speaking exclusively to Everton.News after the match, gave his opinion on what might occur in the near future after such a dire result.
He claimed: ‘There is a real pressure on Sean Dyche, but we are also now looking at the hierarchy who brought him in – we know that the prospective new owners are highly likely to bring in a new name – but the performances this season may mean we see a change sooner than expected.’
This came after Bailey had already predicted that Dyche was on thin ice at Everton. Well, the cracks are starting to widen…
When does Sean Dyche’s Everton contract expire?
Whilst Bailey predicts that Dyche’s dismissal could come mid-season, the fact of the matter is that, at the moment, there’s nobody in charge to make that call.
Naturally, John Textor is trying to take over Everton, and it could be his first big call should he succeed, but with Farhad Moshiri completely awol they are without someone at the top to make such a bold decision for now.
The Iranian billionaire’s indifference towards the Toffees has been well-documented, as has the club’s financial issues, so paying off the rest of the 53-year-old’s contract mid-season makes little sense.
Especially when his current deal runs out in the summer, which would see him depart for free.

This could therefore allow the club a complete refresh, with a new owner making bold decisions as they triumphantly stride into their new stadium.
Doing so without having to sack anyone makes perfect sense, and thus explains why they could hold on before making such a bold call.
