Everton are dealing with a number of injury issues going into their game on the weekend against Southampton.

Sean Dyche will be hoping his side are able to keep things going with their run of five games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Dwight McNeil is an injury doubt for Everton having failed to train on Thursday – and seemingly Friday – ahead of the trip south.

However, there has been some positive news to emerge from Goodison Park with Abdoulaye Doucoure spotted in Everton training on Friday.

What this could mean is there may be some opportunities to be handed to some of Everton’s young prospects.

And there is one player who is already chomping at the bit to work his way into Dyche’s squad at some point this season.

Omari Benjamin targeting Everton first-team opportunity

Speaking to the club’s academy media, Omari Benjamin has admitted one of his targets for the remainder of the campaign is to get a call-up from Dyche.

“I’d say for the rest of the season, I just want to carry on my good form, stay injury free and push on and see if we can get some first-team opportunities and just continue working hard,” said the youngster.

“I’ve enjoyed the season quite a bit so far. I’ve been scoring goals and assisting, contributing to the team however I can. So yeah, it’s been a good start.”

The 18-year-old is still soaring after his recent display which saw Everton fans hail Benjamin for his brace against Liverpool.

Who is Everton’s Omari Benjamin?

It really has been a bright start to the season for Benjamin who has been hailed ‘exceptional’ as a regular feature in Everton’s U21s side.

The 18-year-old striker has been able to provide the youth side with five goals and two assists across his nine appearances in all competitions.

Benjamin is already said to be impressing coaching at Everton after only joining the club over the summer from Arsenal’s youth setup.

Naturally, Benjamin has not made an appearance for Dyche’s senior side but the Toffees are clearly struggling for goals up top.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Everton form has been slammed in recent weeks with just two goals from his opening nine league games.

It seems Everton have a really hungry young prospect raring to go in their ranks.
