Nathan Patterson is a natural option, but it seems clear now that he doesn’t have a future at the club under David Moyes, who so often overlooked him last term.
And on Monday, it was suggested Eintracht Frankfurt are looking to strike a deal with Everton to prise Patterson away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
But how much money could the Scot actually fetch this summer?

It is not easy to determine a valuation for Patterson because there are several things to consider.
First of all, he was signed by Everton for a total of fee of about £16 million, according to Sky Sports.
To think Everton will make all their money back is utterly fanciful, because it simply has not been a good spell for Patterson.
Of course, he’s had some good games.
But by and large he has not lived up to that price tag, and now he’s only got a year left on his deal, which cuts his value even more.
There is also Patterson’s injury record to factor in.
He’s had several muscle injuries during his time at Everton, and in his earlier days he also had ankle surgery. So since signing, between his injuries and his lack of consistency, he has made 67 appearances for the club.
And then there is the notion that Patterson is likely to push for an exit if Everton dig their heels in, given the fact he hasn’t been playing and will surely want a change.
But there are some positives for Everton in terms of potentially selling for more money.
Despite his lack of impact for Everton of late, it’s been suggested that clubs from across three leagues are interested.
Multiple clubs showing interest will increase the chances of a potential bidding war.
He’s also a good age at 24, and has international pedigree, winning 29 caps for Scotland.
So there’s reason for optimism here that Everton can fetch a decent fee for Patterson.
Perhaps £10 million would be the absolute most Everton can expect to sell Patterson for given the current circumstances. Multiple clubs wanting him is positive.
Realistically, he will likely be going for somewhere in the £5-10 million region. Anything lower than £5 million would be extremely disappointing.
