Fabrizio Romano says Everton are ‘monitoring’ teen goal machine ahead of January

Everton’s transfers of late have had to be methodical and economical, given the financial constraints that years of misspending have placed on them.

Few would have expected that, following the summer of 2017 in which Ronald Koeman completely overhauled the squad with numerous lucrative additions, that six years on the club would be in a financial black hole, unable to spend until they sold.

As such, the departures of Anthony Gordon and particularly Richarlison hit hard, as two key figures sought greener pastures away from the toxicity that swirled around Goodison Park.

Things have since taken a dramatic turn for the better under Sean Dyche, but fans will still be far from at ease.

They await their potential punishment for the fiscal sanctions, with a 12-point deduction what the Premier League craves, and as such are unlikely to be spending big this January.

And yet, Fabrizio Romano still notes their interest in a teenage starlet, just days after being linked to another starlet, perhaps showcasing their diversion in transfer strategies.

For years now they have chased the big names, seeking readymade stars to instantly make them great. It seems like that proved to be the problem all along, with a view to the future marking intelligence from a business perspective.

The Italian journalist wrote: ‘Understand Juventus and Everton are both keeping close eye on Swiss talented striker Winsley Boteli (17). Scouts are monitoring Borussia Moenchengladbach’s striker who recently signed with Chris Mandiangu as new agent. He’s currently top scorer of U19 Bundesliga.’

Who is Winsley Boteli?

Given how determined Dyche was to bolster his striking ranks in the summer, there is little chance the 17-year-old marksman would make a breakthrough any time soon.

After all, Beto marks a fine backup for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has recently returned to full fitness, with Youssef Chermiti even acquired as a third-choice too.

Boteli would likely assume a place in the U21s, with a loan surely planned out for him were he to make the switch to England.

There is reason to believe that he might terrorise the youth levels though, given, as Romano notes, he is already the top scorer in the U19s Bundesliga.

A tally of 12 goals in ten games at any level is admirable, let alone at one above his age grade. Such form is made even more admirable given he would notch a further 12 across stints from U17s all the way up to U19s, outlining his rapid growth.

The sky is really the limit for the Swiss U17 international, who could forge a path to first-team football should he take a punt on Everton.
