Farhad Moshiri already told his ‘elite’ Everton plan, it looks so foolish now

Everton have been ran into the ground under Farhad Moshiri’s leadership.

His tenure as owner has been one mired by mass regression, made even worse by the falsehoods he peddled as promises.

The Iranian billionaire brought with him a vast fortune set to be spent on Merseyside, and whilst he came good on those claims, the lack of direction has set the precedent for recent relegation battles.

But, what exactly did Moshiri say back in 2016? Was it really so foolish? We take a closer look…

What Farhad Moshiri said about Everton in 2016

Moshiri has promised much throughout his many years at Goodison Park, with their Bramley-Moore Dock stadium arguably the only one to have come to fruition with great effect.

Other than that, he has let supporters down on every occasion, with today’s fan the sufferer of years of mismanagement.

Well, one of the greatest broken promises came all the way back in 2016, as The Athletic sought to relay his claim that he would take Everton back to the ‘elite’.

‘We don’t want to be a museum’ Moshiri said.

‘We need to be competitive and we need to win. We have a window to establish ourselves and we will do everything we can. Now we need to look at sustainability to be amongst the elite. It takes time, but we are committed.’

Farhad Moshiri has ruined Everton

The irony of this statement is not lost on this writer, with claims regarding reaching the top of football and sustainability both having been ignored.

The latter in particular is the sole source of their current mess, having only just recently been hit with another breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, their second in just one season.

He has been made to look incredibly foolish, as a businessman without the necessary acumen to take what was once a supremely successful club, and one of England’s biggest, and turn it into a profitable business.

The foundations were in place, albeit a little shaky, but he did not heed the warning signs, and has taken the club to an all-time low.

It is easy to laugh at old statements and how poorly some might age, but few can rival the aforementioned one.

Moshiri promised the world to Evertonians, and in the end has failed to deliver. Now, he is nowhere to be seen, with those left behind forced to clean up his mess whilst he desperately tries to recoup some of his losses by forcing through a sale.

What a disgraceful reign.
