Darren Bent thinks it’s going to be extremely difficult for Jordan Pickford to lose his spot in the England team anytime soon.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former striker claimed that Aaron Ramsdale is the ‘better goalkeeper’ but Pickford has never let his country down.

Ramsdale took his spot in the England line-up on Tuesday night as Gareth Southgate’s side eased to a 3-1 victory over Scotland.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best ‘keepers, however he remains second choice for his national team and has only racked up four caps since making his debut almost two years ago.

Meanwhile, Pickford’s heroics at major tournaments in recent years has seen him comfortably claim that No.1 spot in between the sticks.

The Everton star has 55 caps to his name and has become a fan favourite at each World Cup and Euro tournament, making him almost irreplaceable even if he isn’t at his best for the Toffees.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: “I love Aaron Ramsdale and I think he’s a better goalkeeper. But, it’s really hard to take that number one shirt off Pickford because he has not let England down. Whether it be making saves, scoring pens, he’s never let England down.

“So from that metric, even though he might not be playing well, and he’s actually doing alright and that double save against Sheffield United was ridiculous.

“For Everton, he’s been consistent, but for England he’s almost faultless.”

People won’t realise how good Pickford is for England until he’s gone

Jordan Pickford has made some exceptional saves and produced unbelievable penalty shootout displays for England, but fans seemed to quickly forget about it once club football returned.

The 29-year-old has a good couple of tournaments left in him before he could potentially be replaced as the Three Lions’ no.1 and it won’t be until then that the country begins to realise how much we are missing him.

You can’t rely on Aaron Ramsdale as much in a penalty shootout and Pickford’s determination and passion is unmatched. For anyone to think he should have been dropped already, they are just crazy.
