Rafa Benitez was a disastrous appointment for Everton.
It was one of the poorest decisions Farhad Moshiri made at Everton, as Rafa Benitez struggled to win over supporters due to his Liverpool links.
The Spaniard endured a dreadful six-and-a-half-month tenure on Merseyside between June 2021 and January 2022.
The Bournemouth manager has announced he’s leaving… 🤔
Benitez was sacked after leaving the club in a relegation battle, so it massively impacted his stock going forward.
That said, the former Toffees manager is now on the verge of being dismissed by a club in Greece.

Former Everton boss Rafa Benitez facing Panathinaikos sack
Since leaving Everton four years ago, Benitez has managed back in Spain with Celta Vigo and now in Greece with Panathinaikos.
The 66-year-old was hired by the Greek giants in October 2025 and has managed 40 games up to this point.
Benitez has won just half of his games in charge, drawing 10 and losing 10, which has put his job at major risk.
Two games to go… where do you see Everton actually finishing in the table? 😫
Europe now feels incredibly unlikely… 👋
Panathinaikos finished as runners-up last season, but this year, they’re sitting in fourth place, having lost three of their last four games.
Benitez’s side were also hammered 5-0 on aggregate by Real Betis in the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
That said, according to Sport24, Panathinaikos owner Giannis Alafouzos has already decided to sack him at the end of the season.
He still has one year left on his lucrative contract, which is reportedly a whopping £3.4m-a-year, but Alafouzos has clearly seen enough and is concerned that the situation won’t improve next season.
