Former Everton star Arnaut Danjuma torn to shreds online after what he did vs Liverpool in the Champions League

It has been a long time since Everton were playing amongst the elite on the European stage but there are some former Everton players currently at that level.

Everton signed Arnaut Danjuma on loan last season from Villarreal but the Toffees did not take up their opportunity to sign him permanently.

The Dutchman had previously spent time in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, but also struggled to find his feet in north London.

Following the summer window, Danjuma finds himself playing Champions League football for Spanish outfit Girona.

Danjuma admitted he’d have joined Liverpool and, on Tuesday night, found himself playing against them.

But it was not a night to remember for the attacker as he was slammed by football fans watching the game for something he did against the Reds.

Fans tear into former Everton player Arnaut Danjuma for Champions League display

It was not a great spell on Merseyside for the winger with Danjuma linked with a January move away from Everton just months after joining.

Girona lost the game against Arne Slot’s side, but the Spanish outfit did push Liverpool during the game on Tuesday.

Danjuma started the game against his former Premier League rivals, but there was a moment which did not do his reputation in front of goal any favours.

The 27-year-old took aim from outside of the box but was unable to find the target with his shot going out for a throw-in.

One fan, @caffers3, admitted it was the worst shot he’s ever seen: ‘Fair play, Danjuma has had probably two of the worst shots I’ve ever seen and I saw that Naby Keita shot in the Champions League final.’ Whilst @theagymsk simply said: ‘Danjuma’s shot just went for a throw-in’.

Another fan offered his verdict on the shot as @kareemasr added: ‘That shot by Danjuma…he’s going to remember that one for the next week’. With @manlikejm also saying: ‘I ain’t seen a shot as bad as Danjuma’s in my life’.

There was one fan in @@Zainab_cpt who offered some constructive criticism, they said: ‘Danjuma is his own enemy. Great feet & can beat the defender, but don’t ask him for a good shot on target’. But @oilookitsian jokingly added: ‘This Danjuma shot is going to end up in one of those “how big before it goes in” videos’.

Dyche said Danjuma looked good in Everton training, but the forward was never really able to showcase his talent on the pitch.

And it seems he is still having some difficulties.

It was a frustrating night for Girona who had plenty of opportunities in front of goal; they were just unable to make them count.

Danjuma has been able to find the back of the net twice in La Liga this season – as many as he did for Everton – but he wasted his opportunities on Tuesday night.

Although some Everton fans may find Danjuma’s effort amusing, the Toffees have struggled in front of goal this season themselves.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Beto is receiving interest from Juventus as he fails to make an impression at Goodison.

Big changes could be needed with The Friedkin Group close to securing their takeover on Merseyside this month.
