Gary Lineker hails ‘terrific’ former Everton player who’s excelling at his new club

Everton have seen many former players go on to perform well after a dismal spell at Goodison Park but sometimes they can get the best out of both worlds.

Sandro Ramirez, Davy Klaassen, and Ademola Lookman, these are just many examples of players who didn’t quite kick on in Merseyside but have proven to flourish elsewhere.

So when you see a player who has endured a fine spell with Everton and replicated that form at their next club, it’s sure to bring a smile to Evertonians’ faces.

It may not be the same sentimental feeling for Marco Silva when it comes to Fulham, but a certain former player has been flying for the Cottagers this season.

Gary Lineker praises former Everton star Alex Iwobi for ‘terrific’ season at Fulham

You can’t deny Alex Iwobi has been superb in a Fulham shirt this season, as former Everton boss Silva is getting a tune out of the west London side with Iwobi at the heart of it.

The Nigerian international experienced a solid spell with the Toffees and is definitely looked upon with fondness from the Everton fanbase.

After leaving Goodison Park, Iwobi made it clear his Everton exit wasn’t easy, and the 28-year-old certainly has a lot of respect for the club as a whole.

The midfielder haunted his predecessors back in October with a fine effort in a 1-1 draw at Goodison, as Iwobi showed the level of respect he has for Everton by not celebrating.

Speaking on his podcast, The Rest is Football (18:58), alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, former Everton striker Gary Lineker made his remarks on Iwobi very clear after a brilliant season so far.

Lineker: “Iwobi has had a terrific season. He’s a bit of a journeyman around the Premier League.”

Everton faithful must be baffled at Alex Iwobi’s resurgence under Marco Silva

Iwobi certainly performed towards the back end of his Everton career, racking up nine goal contributions under Frank Lampard and at the start of Sean Dyche’s tenure.

However, an alarming factor comes into play for Toffees fans, with Silva at the heart of Iwobi’s upward trajectory in form.

Silva originally brought Iwobi to Everton in a £28m deal from Arsenal, in what turned out to be the Portuguese’s final signing for the Toffees.

A signing that didn’t start well by any means, and comes as a surprise that Iwobi’s second spell under Silva is going so smoothly.

It’s a strange situation for Everton fans who will be delighted for Iwobi, but will be scratching their heads at what could have been at Goodison under Silva.
