The door has opened for Everton to sign Lutsharel Geertruida this summer as he’s expected to leave RB Leipzig.
Geertruida is currently playing his football on-loan with Premier League side Sunderland, but will return to his parent club in the coming weeks.
Everton hold an interest in Geertruida, with the right-back position one of the clear areas for improvement in the summer on Merseyside.
No win in any of Everton’s last five games… what would you say to David Moyes? 🫣
Ironically, Geertruida is set to play against the Blues this weekend for the Black Cats, with a possible audition at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in front of an interested Everton recruitment team.

Everton target Lutsharel Geertruida set for summer transfer
David Moyes is keen to sign a new right-back, with Nathan Patterson’s potential departure likely meaning the Blues require two additions in that area.
Geertruida is a player on their radar and he looks set to become available over the coming months.
Sky Sports Germany reported Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Geertruida will likely permanently depart RB Leipzig this summer.
Two games to go… where do you see Everton actually finishing in the table? 😫
Europe now feels incredibly unlikely… 👋
Sunderland have the option to purchase the defender with a €23m (£20m) buy clause in their loan agreement.
However, the Dutchman looks set to return to his parent club.
Geertruida has struggled to provide Premier League output
The 25-year-old right-back has made 26 appearances (15 starts) in the Premier League this season.
However, he has not provided the attacking output that Everton supporters may be hoping from their next right-back.
The Dutchman has not returned to Sunderland with a single goal or assist this season, which may be a concern to those on Merseyside.
| Competition | Apps | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards | Minutes |
| Premier League | 26 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1,505′ |
| FA Cup | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 180′ |
Moyes wants more from his full-backs, with Vitalii Mykolenko and O’Brien not exactly offering a threat in the opposition’s half.
Based on this season alone, Geertruida may not offer much of an improvement on Everton’s current options.
Given Sunderland are passing up on a relatively cheap option to buy the defender, that may be a warning sign for those at the Hill Dickinson.
