Former Everton manager Marco Silva is being eyed as a possible replacement for Jose Mourinho at Benfica.

The 48-year-old was sacked by Everton back in 2019 following an 18-month tenure on Merseyside.

Silva is in high demand this summer, with his contract at Fulham expiring at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Although Real Madrid have shortlisted Silva as their next potential manager, the Portuguese boss could be in line to replace Mourinho at Benfica if he makes a return to Madrid.

Benfica want former Everton boss Marco Silva to potentially replace Jose Mourinho

There is a lot of uncertainty at Craven Cottage this summer, with Everton keen to sign Harry Wilson as a free agent.

Losing their manager would be a huge blow, but it is looking more and more likely as he is yet to ink a new deal in London.

The Guardian have reported that Benfica are eyeing Silva as a possible replacement for Mourinho this summer.

A sensational return to Real Madrid could be on the cards for Mourinho, with a big role possibly set to open at Benfica.

There is a huge managerial merry-go-round expected this summer and Silva will likely play a role in it.

Silva is also on Chelsea’s radar, but they are now said to be eyeing a move for Xabi Alonso – the man who Madrid are still working to replace.

Considering Silva was sacked whilst Everton were in the relegation zone and on the back of a Merseyside derby thumping, it has been quite a turnaround for the 48-year-old.

Manchester United have discussed Silva as an option, but a return to his homeland as Mourinho’s replacement could naturally appeal.

Options in the Premier League may present themselves for Silva if other managers do not take the role first.
