Everton have made a number of high profile transfer blunders over the years, particularly under Farhad Moshiri.
Everton were on the verge of signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but ended up losing out to Napoli, and now he’s one of the best wingers in the world at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Toffees were also in talks to sign Adam Wharton, and they considered including Tom Cannon in a swap deal, but ultimately failed to get the deal over the line.
Thoughts on potentially signing Ben White? 🤔
Perhaps the biggest blunder came during the summer of 2021, when they were recommended to sign a young midfielder.
But, Everton snubbed the deal, and now Neymar Jr says he’s a world class player.

Everton had the chance to sign Arda Guler
Speaking to Turkish outlet Ajansspor, former Everton striker Cenk Tosun revealed that he recommended Arda Guler to the Toffees when he was coming through at Fenerbahce.
“Everton asked me. I mentioned Arda from Fenerbahce (back in 2021). They looked but did not make a move because he was under 18.”
Guler ended up becoming one of the most sought-after talents on the planet before Real Madrid snapped him up in 2023.
The now 20-year-old has quickly established himself as an elite player, registering 11 goal involvements for Real this season.
Neymar Jr recently said: “Arda Güler is a great player. He has a lot of quality. I think he is the best midfielder in the world.”
Arda Guler is now worth £112m
Since Everton rejected the chance to sign Guler in 2021, the Turkish playmaker has been on a rapid rise to the elite.
The 2005-born has one of the best left foots in football and would command a fee in excess of £100m if he were to be sold.
In fact, according to the Football Observatory, Guler is valued at around £112m, and his stock is only going to rise even further.
Whoever it was at Everton who decided against signing the Turkish star will certainly be kicking themselves.
