How David Moyes feels about a new Everton contract sums the problem up perfectly

David Moyes is said to be feeling “relaxed” about receiving a new contract at Everton as the Glaswegian enters the final 12 months of his deal.

It remains to be seen whether the 63-year-old will lead Everton into the latter stages of the 2020s or depart when his terms expire next summer, but Giulia Bould of BBC Sport has heard from sources that the former Manchester United boss isn’t concerned about the situation whatsoever.

Having just ended the 2025/26 campaign without a win in seven games – however – we feel there should be a lot more pressure on Moyes.

Does this Everton fan have a point about Moyes? 😮

The Friedkin Group seem content with mediocrity and Everton fans deserve more

Last season looked capable of delivering a hugely exciting finale after the 3-0 win over Chelsea in March, a result which left Everton eighth and only three points off the UEFA Champions League spots on 46 points.

Moyes – who Hayden Hackney wants to work under – ended up finishing the season on 49 points and in 13th place after failing to oversee a win in the final seven matches. It was undoubtedly a missed opportunity to get Everton back into Europe and give The Friedkin Group a real boost to their project.

It should be seen as an abject failure to not have even tasted victory in one of those games, considering Everton faced relegation-threatened West Ham and Tottenham, as well as a Crystal Palace side firmly focused on the latter stages of the UEFA Conference League.

The fact Moyes – who himself admitted fear over Everton potentially reaching the UEFA Champions League – can sit comfortably and feel “relaxed” about earning a new deal despite that dreadful run is unlikely to please the fanbase.

There should be pressure from those in the boardroom to accomplish more. Stability is one thing, but it can quite easily blend into mediocrity if there is no consequence for a lack of progress.

Relaxed should not be a word associated with any Everton manager, ever. There should always be an element of the main man being kept on his toes.

Is it time for Everton to start thinking about a change? 👋

Of course, Moyes has earned the right to be relaxed in his role after 579 games across two spells at Everton, but his comfort may well be holding the Toffees back.
