David Moyes arguably contributed to Iliman Ndiaye discomfort with pathetic comment in April

Most Everton fans would have heard by now that Iliman Ndiaye is aiming to play in the UEFA Champions League.

The Senegal international suggested he would be open to leaving the Hill Dickinson Stadium to experience Europe’s greatest club competition during an interview with SPORTbible, in which he said: “I want to be the best player and to do that, you have to play at the top.

“I want to be playing at the top level. I want to be playing Champions League football.”

The comments came after Ndiaye also rejected the offer of a new contract at Everton – an alarming development considering Manchester United are keen on signing the former Marseille man.

With the Everton No.10 targeting UEFA Champions League football, a comment from David Moyes back in April perhaps contributed to his apparent desire to leave.

When David Moyes admitted prospect of UEFA Champions League football at Everton makes him “shake”

The Glaswegian is an experienced coach who has won the UEFA Conference League and reached the semi-final of the UEFA Europa League, but he made a pretty pathetic comment when asked if Everton could qualify for the UEFA Champions League back in April.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Moyes said: “It is probably the best chance we have had for a long time, but the words Champions League, that makes me shake a wee bit.”

If you were in Ndiaye’s shoes and wanted to play UEFA Champions League football, how would you feel if your own manager admitted to being fearful of reaching the competition you dream of?

We highly doubt the comment would have helped Everton during contract talks with the former Sheffield United star, and having gone seven games without a win to end last season, very few people can blame him for considering a move away.

It is now up to The Friedkin Group and Moyes to show some ambition in the transfer market this summer, and prove to Ndiaye that they mean business.
