It has not been a great week for Everton.
David Moyes watched his side endure a disappointing result for the third time in the space of a week at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as Sunderland knocked Everton out of the FA Cup, after an admittedly superb volley from Enzo Le Fee.
A late penalty from James Garner took the tie to extra-time and then penalties, but the Everton No.37 missed his kick before Thierno Barry and Beto also slipped up to hand Sunderland victory.
It follows the 4-2 loss to Brentford and a 1-1 draw against Wolves.
Despite the result, the Toffees still receive a bit of cash from the Football Association (FA).
Everton handed £26,500 for Sunderland defeat
It is a drop in the ocean for a Premier League side, but Everton have nonetheless been given £26,500 for exiting the FA Cup at the third round.

Moyes, who spoke fondly about his memories of taking Everton to the FA Cup final in 2009 before the loss to Sunderland, will surely be furious that his side were unable to overcome the first hurdle in the competition this season.
The Glaswegian will arguably be more concerned that the Hill Dickinson Stadium is not proving to be much of a fortress – Everton have just one win in their last six home games across all competitions.
Why did Everton wear a dark blue kit at home against Sunderland?
Before a ball had even been kicked, many Everton fans took to Google to ask why the players were wearing a dark blue shirt as opposed to the traditional lighter blue.
How much do the Friedkins need to make available for David Moyes to spend in January? 💰
As Christopher Beesley of the Liverpool Echo revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) before the game, the strip was worn to celebrate “the stadium’s place as part of Liverpool’s iconic skyline” and is part of a new range of kits.
Many Everton fans were unhappy about the usage of a dark blue shirt, arguing that the Toffees should always wear the traditional lighter blue for a home game – which we strongly agree with.
