This summer’s transfer window has burst into life with some clubs already spending considerable sums of money.
Everton have reached an agreement to sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough after weeks of club-to-club negotiations.
However, the money being spent away from Everton is extraordinary, with Manchester City spending £116m on Elliot Anderson.
How has Thomas Tuchel taken Jordan Henderson over James Garner? 😡
Amid the move for the England international, his price tag does raise the question of just how much James Garner is now worth.

James Garner’s value to Everton rises after Elliot Anderson’s Man City move
Garner enjoyed a seriously impressive 2025/26 season on Merseyside as he picked up the Player of the Season award.
It was a real breakthrough campaign for the midfielder, with Garner able to show some real quality and consistency under Moyes.
The 25-year-old also showcased his versatility as he was played across a number of different positions by the Scot.
How much would YOU say James Garner is worth now? 💰
Everton paid just £9m for him in 2022… 👏
Over his 41 appearances, Garner was used as both a midfielder and defender.
| Position | Appearances |
| Central midfield | 34 |
| Right-back | 4 |
| Left-back | 3 |
It has been suggested that Newcastle United hold an interest in Garner as they look set to sanction the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Man City’s valuation of Anderson at a staggering £116m raises the question of just how much Everton could demand for Garner.
Comparing the two midfielders’ data from the 2025/26 season and it is clear to see there is not a great deal in it.

Granted, Anderson does slightly edge Garner in certain areas such as his progressive passing and carrying, but Garner considerably outperformed Anderson defensively.
Premier League clubs like Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United are all keen to bolster their midfield this summer.
The prices being suggested for some of the players on their radars are just incredible.
Tonali to Spurs could cost the Lilywhites around £100m, and recently-relegated Mateus Fernandes is being valued in the region of £85m.
With these numbers in mind, there is absolutely no reason why Everton could not demand that figure if any firm interest in Garner arises.
Of course, Everton will be keen to keep the midfielder around on Merseyside, but they will hold all the cards if anything does change this summer.
Garner signed a new Everton contract earlier in the year, which has secured his future until 2030.
Although the Blues could seek significant money for Garner, his numbers in comparison to the £116m Anderson goes to show just how important he is to the club’s near future.
