Tottenham Hotspur could potentially play their role in an Everton exit, which would ruin the summer of supporters across Merseyside.

David Moyes will be desperate to keep hold of his top players over the coming months following what was an underwhelming end to the season.

James Garner has signed a new deal at Everton earlier in the campaign, but he still remains on the radar of clubs across the Premier League.

Although Spurs are not one of those sides, the north London club’s interest in Sandro Tonali could fuel Newcastle United’s growing interest in the Everton midfielder.

Who is interested in signing Everton’s James Garner

It has been claimed by The Chronicle that Newcastle United have Garner on their radar among a number of other players this summer.

Over recent months, Manchester United have shown an interest in Garner as they also look to make additions to their midfield over the transfer window.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign on Merseyside, but it still did not prove enough to earn a call-up from Thomas Tuchel.

Garner has already outlined his target for Everton ahead of the 2026/27 campaign as one of the club’s most important players.

How Tottenham could play a role in Garner’s Everton future

The reason Newcastle are showing an interest in Garner is because they are bracing themselves for losing Sandro Tonali.

It is understood that Spurs are looking to make a real splash in the market by signing Tonali in a deal that could rise to around £100m.

Garner won Everton’s Player of the Season award after his breakout campaign in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old made 41 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions and provided a return of three goals and seven assists.

Although Everton fans may not be initially concerned about losing Garner to Newcastle, the influx of cash they could receive from selling Tonali has to be a concern.

Everton do not have to sell their top players this summer as a method to balance the financial books, but the Toon could find themselves in a position to offer serious cash for the Everton man.

It must be stressed that Everton’s improved finances will put them in a strong position should they receive official interest in the likes of Garner or even Iliman Ndiaye.

However, Moyes has admitted every player at Everton has their price, with Newcastle potentially set to receive the funds to test Everton’s mettle.

The question then turns to what would it take for Everton to possibly even consider selling Garner.

West Ham United could also be set to sell Tottenham one of their midfielders in Mateus Fernandes, with a valuation of £85m.

Considering Garner’s significant Premier League experience and contract status, the Toffees would be well within their rights to ask for a similar figure.

Sharing their thoughts on TalkingPoints, a number of Everton fans have already suggested Garner as a future captain of the club.

Clearly, Evertonians will be keen to see Garner stick around for the coming years.
