Everton are in the mix to sign Liam Delap – but fans have expressed their concern following a new claim about the club’s pursuit of the striker.
The 2024/25 Premier League season may have only just finished, but it’s full steam ahead to the summer now for David Moyes and The Friedkin Group.
There is a lot to do, and fans are hoping to see some smart decisions being made by the club, ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton are in the market to sign a new striker this summer, having struggled in the final third at times.
By the end of the campaign, things had improved a bit under Moyes, but the Scot knows he needs to strengthen up top if Everton are to push on.
And one player Everton have had eyes on is Liam Delap.
David Moyes has personally spoken to Delap and outlined the project to him. But the striker has been in talks with several other clubs too.
Today though, it’s been suggested by Fabrizio Romano that part of the club’s sell to the player could be that Delap is given the chance to leave Everton after just two or three seasons via a potential release clause – and some fans have had a lot to say about that.
Everton fans disappointed by potential plan to sign Liam Delap

Liam Delap is one of the most highly coveted players on the market at the moment.
Many clubs need a new striker, and Delap – a young English centre-forward – has a very reasonable release clause set at £30 million.
He has plenty of options, so Everton will have their work cut out to win the race.
Seemingly, the club feel they might be able to get him if there is a route out of the club after just a couple of years.
But some fans are not on board with that idea.
@ChrisPerez75 said: “Why are we giving him the option to leave in 2-3 years? We should be looking at developing a squad for 5-7 years & if Delap wants out in 2/3 years then he lacks commitment to us.
@JackJEFC01 added: “So we’re a stepping stone club then.”
@dtaylor_efc said: “2-3 years…what is the point 😑”
@DayOwens84 said: “The ambition of this club never changes.”
@LJF991 said: “Stepping stone FC we are back baby.”
@sportsfan_info said: “I don’t like this, obviously if we progress in the next 2-3 years we could convince him to stay but if we want a winning mentality, we should get players who want to play for Everton not just a big financial package than moving.”
Everton are being reasonable with their pitch to Delap
Some fans don’t like the plan to sign Delap on the proviso that he could potentially leave easily after two of three seasons.
But realistically, this is probably the best sell Everton can make to the player.
There is obviously a high level of interest in Delap, and his potential is high.

He could very well join a club in the Champions League such as Chelsea or Arsenal, but if Everton give the player an easy out in a few years this might just lure him to Merseyside.
And who knows, if there is a release clause agreed between Delap and Everton, there is always the chance the club could renegotiate it or potentially even get rid of it depending on how things go.
