Pundit Dean Saunders has now made a claim about potential Everton signing Ashley Young today.

The 38-year-old Young is available on a free transfer after his contract with Aston Villa expired and the Blues look set to beat newly promoted Luton Town to his signature.

Indeed, the versatile star can provide both experience and leadership to Everton’s squad, and Dean Saunders states that he can ‘guarantee’ that Young was running the dressing room at Villa Park.

Speaking via TalkSport, Saunders said: “I like Ashley Young, he’s got a good attitude. I think he’s a winner and he’s gone from playing on the wing to full-back, which has got him to 38 a bit like James Milner.

James Milner was an out and out winger and moved back. I think you can’t have enough of them in the dressing room. In Aston Villa’s dressing room, I guarantee you Ashley Young was running that dressing room.”

Young can be another leader for Everton, even short term

Everton could have limited spending power this summer and signing such a versatile and experienced player could allow the Toffees to invest in key areas, such as the club’s attacking options.

Indeed, as Saunders states, Ashley Young could be a positive influence on the dressing room, alongside veteran Everton captain Seamus Coleman.

While such a move will obviously only provide a short-term solution to Everton’s issues within the squad, Young’s versatility will allow him to cover multiple positions over the course of the season.

Sean Dyche has also made clear his intention to recruit a new left-back, indicating that he doesn’t see a future for Ukrainian Vitalii Mykolenko at Goodison Park.

Despite his age, Young could be a shrewd signing by Sean Dyche, and could at least for now offer more than Everton’s current options at left-back
