Dwight McNeil has been enjoying doing something he hasn’t done ‘in years’ during Everton’s pre-season.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the winger revealed that Sean Dyche has taken the team cycling during their training camp at Lake Geneva.

The Toffees jetted off to the Swiss Alps at the start of the week as they prepare for their first pre-season match against Stade Nyonnais on Friday evening.

The former Burnley boss is preparing for his first full season at Goodison Park and will be eager to improve on a second consecutive relegation battle.

With success comes hard work and McNeil has admitted the week in the mountains has been intense so far, though being back on a bike has brought him some joy.

“It’s been good,” McNeil told the Liverpool Echo. “We trained after we got here on Monday and then did two sessions on Tuesday, one in the morning and then gym in the afternoon and an evening session.

“We did training on Wednesday morning and then team bonding in the afternoon. It’s been hard, the work has been intense but everyone has been enjoying themselves.

“I haven’t been on a bike in years so it was nice to ride a bike again.”

Can Dwight McNeil be Everton’s main man next season?

After a stuttering start to life at Everton, Dwight McNeil thrived after he was reunited with Sean Dyche – bagging 10 goal contributions in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old seems to be the perfect player for the Toffees boss and he is only going to get better after a full pre-season under his belt.

While Everton will definitely need to bolster their attack this summer, McNeil could be one player that fans will want to see in the starting line-up if he can build on a successful first campaign on Merseyside.
