Insider fears Chelsea could soon inflict a double blow on Everton

Chelsea could have a significant say in recruitment at Everton this summer.

The Toffees still hope to sign Liam Delap – who Chelsea beat Everton to last summer when agreeing a £30m deal with Ipswich.

If not the Englishman, Chelsea could sell a different striker to David Moyes as Everton keep an eye on Nicolas Jackson during his quiet loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Now – however – Bayern Munich insider Christian Falk has proposed a potentially bleak situation that would see Everton miss out on the Senegal international and suffer a financial hit as well.

Does Kevin Thelwell deserve more credit for this? 👏

Chelsea could use Nicolas Jackson to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle

Bayern Munich want to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle this summer, with Barcelona and PSG also interested in the former Toffee alongside Chelsea.

Everton could make millions from a sale, as Kevin Thelwell negotiated a 15% cut of the profits should Newcastle ever sell the England international.

However, if Chelsea successfully use Jackson in a deal to sign Gordon from Newcastle, it would arguably be the worst outcome possible.

Falk told Bayern Insider: “So it’s getting interesting to see who’s joining the poker table. I’m personally more afraid of Chelsea, as they have the resources to make a deal happen.

“Not to mention, they could use Nicolas Jackson as a makeweight in a potential swap deal (and we know Newcastle are interested in the Senegal international).”

Not only would Everton miss out on Jackson in the event of the Senegalese striker moving to Newcastle, but that deal would also be a way for Chelsea to sign Gordon for a lower transfer fee – thus reducing the cut of the profits for The Friedkin Group.

Newcastle paid £40m to sign Gordon from Everton in January 2023, and the Magpies are now said to value him at £80m.

However, if Chelsea manage to agree a player-plus-cash deal with Newcastle, say, for £40m including Jackson, that would actually see Everton receive nothing.

Rank these striker options from best to worst… 😬

Therefore, Everton must sincerely hope this hypothetical agreement does not materialise between Chelsea and Newcastle.
