The Merseyside derby was called off on the weekend due to Storm Darragh.

Everton vs Liverpool had to be postponed as gale-force winds swept Merseyside, so the decision was taken for safety reasons.

That leaves Everton with a game in hand on their relegation rivals, though, they weren’t too badly affected by the blank gameweek as Ipswich Town, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Leicester City all failed to win.

So after the weekend’s games, Sean Dyche’s men remain in 15th, five points clear of the relegation zone heading into the busy festive period.

Now, it’s just come to light, when the Merseyside derby is expected to be rescheduled for after a few days of discussions.

Merseyside derby potential new date

According to BBC Sport, the postponed Merseyside derby will ‘most likely’ be rescheduled for the week commencing the 17th of February.

Liverpool are set to be guaranteed a top-eight finish in the Champions League, meaning that week will be free for Arne Slot’s men.

It’s unlikely the game will be played in March as there’s a two-week international break and a League Cup final to contend with.

So, at this stage, it looks like Everton will host Liverpool on either Tuesday the 18th or Wednesday the 19th.

Everton play Manchester United days later

If the Liverpool game is to be rearranged for the week commencing the 17th of February, Everton are set for an incredibly difficult week.

Just days later, Dyche’s men welcome Manchester United to Goodison Park, so it won’t be an easy double game week.

It makes their two prior clashes against Crystal Palace and Leicester City must-wins in their fight to avoid relegation.
