Everton have a ‘secretly fast’ player who is even quicker than Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton have often been accused of lacking pace in recent years, especially for a side that liked to play on the break.

Whether it be across their defence or up front, an inability to cause their opposition any real problems stemmed from failing to acquire any raw physicality across numerous transfer windows, and it often left them bare at the back too.

Fortunately, that has been somewhat rectified of late, but their desperation for more can be seen in Kevin Thelwell’s recent transfer targets. Just a few targets come to mind: Kamaldeen Sulemana, Wilfried Gnonto, Ernest Nuamah and Largie Ramanzani.

However, ironically so, their fastest player has apparently been with them since 2020.

Everton’s fastest players revealed

Once again getting Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison onto Everton’s official YouTube channel, this time saw them trying to agree on creating their ultimate teammate made up of various traits from their actual teammates.

The attributes were left foot, right foot, tackling, heading, finishing, pace and football IQ.

The former would open the speed debate by stating: ‘Dom’s quite fast.’ Harrison swiftly agreed, but having put Calvert-Lewin down for heading, the on-loan Leeds United man proposed an alternative: ‘Feel like Jarrad, he is secretly fast, isn’t he?”

McNeil concurred: ‘He is fast. We have not used Jazza yet.’

‘We will go with Jarrad then,” Harrison decided.

McNeil then reiterated his compatriot’s earlier claim: ‘Secretly fast.’

Everton need Jarrad Branthwaite back from injury

Given the alarming lack of speed that the rest of his backline boasts, Everton manager Sean Dyche will be desperate to get Jarrad Branthwaite back from injury as soon as possible.

After all, their only Premier League win of this campaign actually came when the £35k-a-week centre-back returned, before he then suffered another setback.

The entire team gets a boost with his presence, as a 22-year-old who has already become one of the club’s most integral players.

Fortunately, injury expect Ben Dinnery dropped a fitness update on Branthwaite ahead of the Ipswich Town match which should be a boost to many.
