Jack Harrison has opened up on his Everton teammates’ reaction to their recent point deduction.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the winger admitted how ‘surprised’ he had been with the squad’s mentality since the news broke.
Everton received an immediate 10-point deduction last week after they were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Top flight clubs are allowed to post losses of £105 million over a three-year period, but an independent commission found that the Toffees’ losses up to 2021-22 amounted to £124.5m.
Everton admitted to breaching the profit and sustainability rules, but a statement read that they were ‘both shocked and disappointed’ by such a significant punishment, while they confirmed they would be appealing the decision.
Sean Dyche‘s side had been flying in recent months, having won six matches in their last nine games in all competitions. However, the point deduction has taken them from 14th to 19th, two points from safety.
Everton will take on Manchester United in their first match since the point deduction on Sunday, and Jack Harrison has admitted that the players are in a ‘good place’ as they look to fight their way back out of the relegation scrap.
“Obviously, we were taken by surprise,” Harrison said. “I don’t think the club was expecting that and that’s why the club are going through the appeal and everything.
“But I think, I’m probably more surprised at the reaction of the players. Everyone I think is in such a good place mentally and it’s generating this feeling of… even though we have had ten points deducted and you can throw that at us, but we’re going to come back twice as hard and do everything we can to come back stronger.

“I think it’s just up to us now as players and as a club, with the fans, coming together to help drive that mentaility and that willingness to compete every week and get those points back. I have every belief that we can do that.”
Where do Everton go from here?
Everton received the biggest sporting sanction in the Premier League‘s history because of £19.5m. They have every right to be angry and frustrated, but instead it only seems to have spurred them on.
Many have predicted the Toffees to beat Manchester United this weekend, which could already see them move out of the bottom three yet again.
There is very few people that even seem to think Everton will go down despite their point deduction, which displays exactly what the atmosphere is like on Merseyside at the moment.
Everton have been unfairly punished this season, but they will make these fans even prouder when they lose ten points and still stay in the top flight.
