Everton fans won’t have to wait too much longer for the announcement for James Garner’s new contract.
Talks have been progressing in recent weeks and on Wednesday, The Bobble reported that an agreement between Garner and Everton had been reached.
So an announcement is now expected soon.
It’s a big boost for Everton, who stood to lose the player on a free at the end of the season – and he would have had plenty of suitors.
Will Garner’s new contract be the signing of the window? 🤩
He has been wonderfully consistent this season, and has stepped up recently in the absence of Idrissa Gana Gueye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Garner’s latest performance against Aston Villa wowed Everton fans, and there’s starting to be a bit more buzz for him now regarding England.
The overriding feeling for most Evertonians though about Garner is relief that he’ll be staying.
And it looks like one Premier League club weren’t actually in for him after all.

Manchester United interest in James Garner a ‘red herring’ as midfielder extends at Everton

It has been claimed by Ben Jacobs that reports of interest from Manchester United in Garner were actually wide of the mark.
Speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel, he said: “Could they (United) make a play for James Garner? I think that was a red herring, because I’m told that he’s actually getting quite close to signing a new deal at Everton.”
Garner, of course, signed for Everton from United in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £9 million, but with add-ons taking that to around £15 million in total.
Garner was questioned by some ahead of this season, but he has really kicked on in 2025/26 and now finds himself getting quite a bit of attention.
AC Milan had been eyeing Garner, but it looks as though Everton have managed to retain the playmaker.
Man United’s loss is Everton’s gain

United could really do with a deep-lying playmaker so it’s a surprise they haven’t pushed to re-sign Garner, especially with his current contract winding down.
But it looks like they have missed the boat now, with Everton about to announce his new deal.
It really is great work from Everton to get Garner tied down, because this season he’s really shown signs that he’s developing into a really complete midfielder.
Garner signing a new contract could be more significant than any new signing because of how much he brings, and United’s loss is most definitely Everton’s gain.
