James Garner shares where Everton will look to finish in the Premier League in 2025/26

There is newfound optimism at Everton after a fantastic 2025 following the arrival of David Moyes.

Everton were in a world of trouble only a few months ago, as Sean Dyche struggled to get points on the board.

While Dyche had kept Everton fairly solid at the back, the team was utterly toothless in the final third.

Ultimately, the way Everton were playing was unsustainable, and there was great relief when news came through that Dyche would be leaving the club.

Dyche told The Friedkin Group he’d taken Everton as far as he could, and that forced their hand.

In came David Moyes, and we’ve all seen what’s happened.

Everton will soon mathematically secure their Premier League safety after a run of just two defeats in 13 games, and eyes are already on next season.

But what will the goal be for the first season playing at Bramley-Moore Dock? James Garner has potentially shared the position Everton will target.

It’s been a brilliant few months under Moyes so far.

The Scot has come in and breathed new life into the players.

It’s been so far so good for Moyes during his second spell as manager. But he’ll undoubtedly need a strong summer if Everton are to build on what they’ve done in recent months.

But there’s a positive feeling about what Everton can achieve next season, and for James Garner, a top 10 finish is definitely achievable.

He said after the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest: “Massively, yes. I think that’s the plan for next season. We want to be a surprise pick in the table for next season.

“I don’t think many people would expect us to finish in the top half of the table next season, but we know and definitely know that we’ve got the players and we’ve got the ability, and we’ve definitely got the team to finish in the top half.

“So they’ve (Forest) gone on an inspiring run, and there’s no reason why we wouldn’t be able to do it.”

Top 10 is sensible target for Everton

Everton fans would love to hope a push for European football next season will be possible.

But that may not be realistic, with TFG having a huge amount to do in their first summer as owners of Everton.

There will be a big turnover of players, and it will take time for Moyes to knit everything together.

Duncan Ferguson reckons a top striker could boost Everton’s hopes of European football, but several more additions will be required for that to be a realistic target.

We will see what transpires this summer. At the moment, Everton are thought to have interest in Liam Delap, Ben Doak and several others.

But finishing in the top 10 next season seems like a sensible and more realistic ambition for Everton.
