Jesper Lindstrom makes promise to Everton fans after poor display vs Southampton

Everton performed poorly across the board last night, as they failed to put a beleaguered Southampton side to the sword as they exited the Carabao Cup.

A woeful showing in front of their home support, Goodison Park grew increasingly impatient as the game went on and they continued to sit back.

Pressing in brief moments and failing to do so as a unit, at times the Saints passed around them like they weren’t even there, fortunately lacking the quality to then punish Sean Dyche‘s side.

Naturally, the manager is coming under plenty of fire for such a diabolical night’s work, but he is not solely to blame.

After all, were it not for Jesper Lindstrom, they would now currently be comfortably in the hat for the next round.

In fact, such was the display of the Denmark International, he actually felt it was pertinent that he take to Instagram to apologise for his performance.

Squandering two golden chances that would have put the game beyond the visitors, in the end the scores remained level, and it was the Saints who won from spot kicks.

The forward has since written: ‘It’s not easy for anyone at the moment, and yesterday was not my day in front of the goal, but I promise that we’ll work hard and do everything we can to get the points and the wins!’

Lindstrom did warn Evertonians that he would take some time to acclimatise, but his all-around play was far from dire.

How did Jesper Lindstrom play vs Southampton?

It’s fair to say that, had Lindstrom been a bit more lethal in front of goal, penalties certainly would not have decided last night’s game.

After all, the Danish trickster missed two one-on-ones, cutting a confidence-shy figure who was wilting under the growing pressure of Goodison Park.

However, apart from those wasted chances, the 24-year-old did not actually have a poor game and looked sharp in waves.

He would manage five key passes throughout the game, highlighting his creativity, and also made one interception, one tackle and one clearance too.

Lindstrom gave his all, and with a little more match fitness, could be a really useful asset for Everton.

Let’s just hope he comes good on that promise.
